The Lawrence County Security Center, located at 1420 "I" Street in downtown Bedford, Indiana, was opened in 1990. The building houses all functions of the Sheriff's Department including administration, intake and processing, and jail functions. The building, constructed on one quarter of a city block, is a three-story structure of steel, precast concrete and reinforced masonry. The façade of the Security Center is made of Indiana limestone and glass brick approximately 3 1/4" thick used for cell windows at the perimeter of the building. The first floor of the Lawrence County Security Center houses the jail intake and processing center including a booking area, temporary holding cells, drunk tank, and padded cell.  Cell blocks on the first floor have been designed for work release and female offenders. The north half of the first floor houses the Sheriff's Department Administration. The second and third levels of the Security Center house the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Division, Detective Division, and all security functions relative to housing inmates.  The Lawrence County Security Center serves the need of the County's current and anticipated future detention needs in a cost-effective, efficient and safe manner for Lawrence County.
